D&R Greenway Strikes a Chord with Music Together

Princeton, N.J.—In preserving more than 20,000 acres in central New Jersey, D&R Greenway Land Trust partners with arts organizations to help raise awareness of the importance of green space. Music Together has been working with D&R Greenway since 2006, to ensure that the lands around us remain verdant and nourishing, both for humans and wildlife.

This relationship began when Music Together was among the partners to help preserve St. Michaels Farm Preserve in Hopewell. Music Together joined as a Business Partner in Preservation in 2007, and offered a family-friendly program of movement and music at the dedication of the new barn at St. Michaels in 2013. Songs on Firea benefit concert for D&R Greenway Land Trust by VOICES Chorale, took place in November 2015 at the Johnson Education Center—Music Together Founder/Artistic Director Kenneth K. Guilmartin worked with VOICES Founder Dr. Lyn Ransom to produce this program.

The relationship came full circle this year, when Guilmartin joined D&R Greenway's Board of Trustees. "At Music Together, we believe we are all stewards of our environment," says Guilmartin, "We operate our business in an environmentally responsible way, through geothermal heating and cooling and near-100% solar power generation at our green headquarters in Hopewell, as well as Forest Stewardship Council–certified printing of all of our publications. We are proud to support D&R Greenway Land Trust, as it plays a critical role in preserving our land for future generations."

Celebrating its 30th Anniversary, Music Together is an internationally recognized early childhood music and movement program for children. The Music Together curriculum was coauthored in 1987 by Kenneth K. Guilmartin and Rowan University Professor Emeritus of Music Education Dr. Lili M. Levinowitz.  It offers programs for families, schools, at-risk populations, and children with special needs in more than 3,000 communities in over 40 countries. The company is passionately committed to bringing children and their caregivers closer through shared music-making,  Their programs help people discover the joy and educational value of early music experiences. For more information and to find classes near you, visit www.musictogether.com

D&R GREENWAY LAND TRUST IS IN ITS 28TH YEAR of preserving and protecting natural lands, farmlands and open spaces throughout central and southern New Jersey. Through continuous preservation and stewardship -- caring for land and easements to ensure they remain protected and ecologically healthy in perpetuity -- D&R Greenway nurtures a healthier and more diverse environment for people and wild species in seven counties. Accredited by the national Land Trust Accreditation Commission, D&R Greenway's mission is to preserve and care for land and inspire a conservation ethic, now and for the future. Since its founding in 1989, D&R Greenway has permanently preserved close to 20,000 acres, an area 20 times the size of New York City's Central Park, including 28 miles of trails open to the public.

The Johnson Education Center, a circa 1900 restored barn at One Preservation Place, Princeton, is D&R Greenway's home. Through programs, art exhibits and related lectures, D&R Greenway inspires greater public commitment to safeguarding land.
